Hinários of the Santo Daime doctrine

Germano Guilherme - SOIS BALIZA

Germano Guilherme was considered by many as the first follower of Mestre Irineu, back in the days of the territorial guard, where they many times went into the jungle to drink Ayahuasca. His nephew Daniel Serra tells us that even when the boarders of Peru and Bolivia were closed, due to a territorial dispute that was taking place, Mestre and Germano would cross over to meet the Indians in the Peruvian jungle. In one of these occasions they came across a bolivian army patrol, getting into a fight where Mestre was shot in the hand, a proof of the so many adventures that they lived together. Their friendship was so strong that they would call each other as maninho (bro). Germano was the last of the so called Companions to die, in 1964, seven years before Mestre.

Germano was also the first follower to sing a hymn in the works, although Mestre has received Lua Branca many years before, around 1914. For that reason it was a tradition to sing Germano's hinário before Mestre's, a fact that happens till today in Alto Santo. Regarding the hinários Mestre would some times seek Percília's help to revise his hymns, which she never did, saying that she had no business with it. He would himself drink Daime and correct what had to be corrected, with the Queen. But he would say,

"You can go through anybody's hymns, but don't change a line in Germano's hinário"

This amazing recording was made available to the fraternity by Marcelo Bolshow and it comes from the center of Mr. Tufi in Alto Santo (CICLUJUR), which today is a district where there are a few centers, including CICLU and CICLU - ALTO SANTO. The tambourine, official instrument of Mestre's time is present, as well as the northeastern aspect of the beautiful voices and the instruments, due to the fact that the doctrine was largely influenced by this Brazilian region where Mestre himself came from. The tempo is also a particularity, as Percília would always advise to keep the same rhythm in the hinário services, not too fast, not too slow, just firm, throughout the whole service, a fact that does not avoids the hinário to speed up in the moments where the force calls to it, harmoniously, being it never a imposition or a prohibition.
